It's starting to feel a lot like the holidays, and your friends at Brewster Vet are here to talk to you about "Healthy Holidays", providing you with tips and updates on recent health issues to keep you and your pet safe this Holiday season.
From the desk of Dr. Kaser, DVM, practice owner at Brewster Vet, and Friends of Brewster Dog Park Board Member:
December is to some people the best time of year on Cape Cod, especially now that there are more places to be able to go to with your canine companion. The Brewster dog park remains a popular place to meet up with people AND of course, dogs! With the recent stories concerning respiratory disease in dogs, some folks may be less inclined to visit areas such as dog parks. So far, there has not been a confirmed new agent that has been described throughout the media. Likely, the illnesses seen are related to Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex that has been endemic for years in this country. CIRDC shows up sporadically throughout the year.
Here are some tips to ensure that you and your pet remain safe:
Discuss with your veterinarian the vaccines your dog should have
Stay away from obviously ill dogs
Keep your dog homewhen he or she is ill
Limit your dog’s time spent with dogs with unknown health status'
If we hear anything more definitive from the American Vet Medical association, you will be the first to know. For now, have fun and enjoy the magical, holiday season!
